Who Uses Web Videos to Promote Business

After learning a little about web videos for advertising, you may be asking yourself just what type of businesses are taking advantages of this medium? The answers are just about everyone who understands the concept of entertainment in advertising.

Just about every business that has a website on the internet is now adding some sort of video advertising to their sites. This includes car dealerships, travel agents, real estate agents and even manufacturers. They realize that they get the attention of a viewer right away if a video comes onto the screen instead of a simple advertisement.

Department stores are also beginning to use video advertising on the internet not only on their websites, but also on internet advertising engines such as Google. It simply captures the attention of a potential buyer more than just a plain photo.

Imagine that you have a website that sells T-shirts, for example. A person goes to your website and sees a variety of T-shirts that are for sale. These are often pictured in photos either by themselves or on models. The prices are included, along with an ordering form. Most websites have a search option so if someone is looking for a particular T-shirt, they can find it easier.

The reason models are depicted in T-shirts is to make the product more attractive. More people are apt to purchase a garment featured on a striking model than an average person or on a mannequin. This is simply another way people are visual. They imagine themselves as the model in the T-shirt and feel that they will also look this way once the garment is acquired.

Now imagine you have this same website but decide to implement video advertising as part of your campaign. Instead of clicking on to a website that just depicts a bunch of models in T-shirts, you have a video where a model is wearing the T-shirt and talking about how much she loves her T-shirts from your company.
Or, you decide to go the humor route. A video depicts an unpopular, geeky kid wearing a white shirt with a pencil protector in the pocket and getting his books knocked out of his hands at school. He says something like “I’ve had enough of this, I’m getting myself over to XXX T-shirt company!”

The next clip shows the same student wearing one of the T-shirts and surrounded by a bevy of women. He winks at the camera and says, “XXX T-shirt changed my life – they can change yours, too.”

Corny? Yes. But entertaining and memorable. As a matter of fact, the more humor or unusual aspects you can add to your video, the more people will remember it. They may even like it so much that they post it on their blog or on “You Tube.” Then you get even more advertising for your business. For free.
Travel agents are quickly discovering that video is the way to go when it comes to advertising on the internet. More and more travel agencies are not just depicting photos of exotic places, but videos of the attractions that can be seen when visiting these places. People feel as though they are taking a trip. They sometimes call this a “virtual tour” and it is really quite effective. A virtual tour takes the viewer on a mini vacation all from their home computer. They get to see highlights of the wonderful sights, the hotels, the beaches and a lot of people enjoying themselves. This sparks their imagination. They envision themselves on the tour and it makes them want to visit as well. The more someone knows about the positive aspects of a particular tour, country or vacation spot, the more apt they are to want to book a vacation to this destination.

Speaking of virtual tours, we have already talked about real estate agents in a previous article. Many real estate companies are now adding video advertising to their websites. Instead of just seeing photos of a home, they see the entire home, just as they were touring it.

In addition to large businesses and professionals using video advertising on the internet, musicians are learning the value of this technology to promote their music and bands. Music videos came out in the 1980s and were frequently depicted on MTV. This was a very popular concept, but soon became very competitive. More and more money was being used to make a more “creative video” for the band. Bands who had creative videos depicting models or something unusual were selling more music than other bands who did not have the capital to create such videos.

In the 1980s, video cameras cost over ,000. And if you wanted the video to look professional, you had to hire a director and some actors. The music videos of the 1980s were actual commercials for a particular artist or a band. And they cost a lot of money to produce.

Today not only professional musicians advertise by video on the internet, but amateurs as well. Video cameras no longer cost over ,000. They are easy to use and the content can easily be downloaded into a personal computer. It is just as easy to upload a video into your webpage as it is to upload a photograph or some music. This allowed amateur musicians to began promoting their bands on the internet. On MySpace, for example, there are thousands of artists doing this. They do not even have to pay for their MySpace page. It is free. They simply have to have someone film their act with a camcorder, upload it to their site and they are advertising for free on the internet. It sure beats the old days of recording demos for thousands of dollars and trying to find someone on the radio to play them.

Individuals who have something unique to sell are also using video advertising on the internet. They can do this with little or no expense if they choose a venue like You Tube. You Tube allows anyone who is a member to upload their videos for others to see. The more clever the video, the better chance of it being discovered. If you want to draw people to your website, mention it in your funny video and put it on YouTube. Millions of people use this website every day. The videos are often either e-mailed to friends or put on blogs and other spaces. Suppose you have invented a special item to sell. You have a patent but have no idea how to sell it. You have a website and are trying to promote it, but are not having much luck. You can advertise on television, but it costs a fortune; even on cable TV.

Maybe you can come up with a funny video that will draw people to your website that involves your product. You can post this on your site and then wait for people to discover the ad. You can also place it on such video websites as YouTube.

Have you ever dated on the internet? Guess what? You are advertising yourself. You are adverting yourself in the hopes of finding a perfect mate. Many people put false photos of themselves on these sites and many internet daters have grown leery of some of the ads. Yet internet dating is big business. In today’s busy world, few people have time to go out and meet a special someone. So many people are taking advantage of the internet dating world.

Some internet dating sites offer their clients a way to communicate with another individual through video instead of just plain text. For a small fee, they can post a video of themselves on the site and talk about their likes, and dislikes. In addition to just seeing a photo, a person who is interested also gets to hear a voice and finds out a little bit more about the person he or she is thinking of contacting. It is very difficult to ascertain what a person is like from a photograph. They may have a voice that sounds like Mickey Mouse and really gets on your nerves. Or they may have an engaging smile and a sexy voice that you really find attractive. This person may look similar to many others who have turned up as your “match,” but chances are, you will watch the video and, if you like what you see, you will be more inclined to contact the individual. They will seem like a real person to you, instead of a photograph and text profile.

Car dealerships are another business that is using video technology to advertise on the internet. Car dealerships have always been known for their “over the top” approach to advertising. They sometimes run specials depicting happy customers getting great deals, or they show a video of a car being driven down the road and being able to make great turns. This cost them much less than advertising on television.

No matter what business you are in, video advertising on the internet can help you attract more customers, gain more exposure for your company and generate new leads and sales. Best of all, it is easy and relatively inexpensive to use. We will discuss how you can do this in a later article.

Tweaks to Speed Up Internet Streaming Video

The birth of “Guerilla Video” sites, such as Peekvid.com, Alluc.org and Youtube.com have given users instant access to a plethora of free media files. Although streaming video technology offers instant access to video files, zero loading time is not always possible. There are many factors that attribute to your computer’s ability to start videos immediately. Other factors such as choppy PC video playback and slow video streaming also hinder your viewing experience. There are easy fixes to these problems. Sometimes choosing another site for the source of the video streaming or a lower quality version of the video can award you with instant play. These alternatives are not always available. However, there are a number of tweaks that help speed up your streaming video startup times, eliminate choppy PC video play and stop slow streaming video.

Before we start with the tweaks to speed up slow streaming video, lets get a basic understanding of streaming video technology in order to stop choppy video. Streaming video is a prerecorded video files that can be distributed as part of a live broadcast “feed.” The video signal is converted into a compressed digital signal and transmitted from a Web server. This server is able to be multicast the same file to multiple users at the same time. When you click on the on the video it is partially loaded before you can access it. This is known as “buffering”. This helps you to load and play the video instantaneously. Now lets take a look on how to cut down on buffering time, stop slow streaming video and eliminate choppy PC video playback .

Common Streaming Video Problems

Problem #1: Choppy PC Video Playback–Choppy video is usually a PC performance related issue. Here are a few things you can try to stop choppy playback and improve computer performance.

Solution A. Turn Off Hardware Acceleration—All media applications require different aspects of your computer’s hardware. Depending on the task, the requirements may change. Turning off hardware acceleration allows the application to set the requirements itself and not be forced to use one universal setting. Hardware acceleration has been to known to cause choppy PC playback, application crashes and slow streaming video problems.

You can eliminate the problem below:

1.Click on “Start”

2.Click “Control Panel”

3.Select the “Settings” tab and click on the “Advanced”.

4.Click on the “Troubleshoot” tab.

5.Disable the hardware acceleration completely by dragging the slider to the extreme left.

Solution B. Turn off Video Acceleration—The reason for this tweak is the similar to hardware acceleration. This act frees up resources in your media player and not your hardware. However you will need to decrease video acceleration in your chosen player. Some sites like Youtube.com don’t offer this option. However, Windows Media Player gives the ability to easily alter this problem, follow the steps below. Other players’ instructions will vary.

1. In Windows Media Player

2. Click the “Tools” menu tab

3. Click on “Options”

4. Select the “Performance” tab.

5. Move the Video Acceleration Slider to “None”

Solution C. Adjust your Windows Desktop Visual Effects—You computer will get a significance boost in speed. This tweak will also free up more resources for your media player and PC performance.

1.Click “Start”, and then click “Control Panel”.

2.Click “System” and Choose “Display”.

3.Find the “Advanced” tab and Click

4.Under “Performance”, Click “Settings”

5.Under “Visuals Effects”, you may choose from a list of options such as “Adjust for best performance” or custom. If you choose Adjust for best performance all the features will be unchecked.

For more performance tips check the “Ways to Speed Up Your PC” to free up more resources to stop PC choppy playback.

Problem #2: Slow and Constant Buffering—This problem can be attributed to two factors internet speed and your media player. You can tweak your PC setting in both areas to cut down on slow streaming video. Remember that each player has its own buffer settings. Below is an how to change buffer setting in Media Player.

Solution A. Adjust Buffer Settings– To change the default buffer settings in Windows Media Player, use the following steps:

1.Start Windows Media Player

2.Click the “View” menu

3.Click “Options”

4.On the “Advanced” tab, click “Streaming Media”(Windows Media)

5.Click “Change” to alter the buffer settings.

Remember that the higher you set the buffer the more of the clip will be loaded. The waiting time before you can see or hear the file will be longer, but there should be fewer interruptions once the clip begins to play.

Solution B. Use a Video Specific Proxy—A proxy allows for popular files to be loaded onto its servers. This eliminates the need for your computer to load the files. For example if you use the proxy, YouTubeProxy.org, you will not have to wait for your computer to download popular YouTube.com content because it may be already loaded in the server. This is a great way to stop slow streaming video.

These are just a few tips to eliminate choppy PC video playback and slow streaming video. However, there are more advanced ways to stop this problem. Depending on the site, there may be independent software developed specifically to speed up slow streaming video. Also, remember the general maintenance is a good way to avoid choppy PC video playback.

Business Communications Revolution ? Video Conference Technology

Video communication has always promised a diverse array of powerful, tangible, immediate business benefits – empowering face-to-face interaction with anyone, anywhere, anytime – instantly.

Fast, measurable cost savings, enhanced productivity and operational efficiencies, greater staff rapport, work life balance and job satisfaction. Even a reduced carbon footprint. Make no mistake. When it comes to video, the eyes well and truly have it.

There was a problem though. The technology was often immature, complex, and expensive. It also tended to be largely proprietary and rather greedy for bandwidth, and it came with a reputation for unreliability.

Accordingly, while the world’s biggest, richest, most risk-resilient companies were able to embrace video with open arms, the rest of us had to keep getting on our trains, planes, and telephones. There was no choice.

Since then, visual communication technology has evolved of course – reliability and quality are no longer an issue. Even then however, even as more and more businesses have come to see the value and the benefits and value of using video, it has remained beyond the reach of most because of budgetary, technical, security and or IT resource constraints.

Video Conferencing has evolved into a viable solution for businesses as recent developments in Video technology have resolved all of these issues.

New Video communication tools can be installed with no impact on your IT infrastructure, high levels of security and no drains on your corporate bandwidth. With high definition video available with small levels of expenditure needed to setup and use, the ability to communicate without the hassle of travel has become available to any business.

Video provides a greener, quicker and more reliable method of communication for businesses worldwide.

The future of business is video conferencing.

Advances in Professional Digital Video Camera Technology

If you’ve ever thought of being a movie maker, there’s no reason to sell everything you have and just to move to Hollywood. Now, everyone can be a movie maker with a professional digital video camera. The professional digital video camera has the same capabilities as the major studios in Hollywood. That means that whatever your intentions, whether you want to make a home movie, a documentary or a full feature film, you can do it all with a professional digital video camera.

Technology has come a long way when it comes to home video technology. Especially when you consider that you can use the same camera that you use to catch Molly and Tommy swimming in the pool as the big boys use filming the latest Tom Cruise movie. That’s right, with a professional digital video camera, you’ll get all the fancy features and the exceptional quality that you see in professional films and you can film anything you want with it. What could be better than that?

Professional digital video cameras are not cheap but the money is well worth it when you consider all that you can do with it. Imagine preserving your memories on high quality digital video. Or imagine filming that movie you’ve always dreamed of but never knew you really had the capabilities. Search around for the best deals; you’re bound to find a professional digital video camera that’s within your budget.

If you are into film-making, the professional digital video camera makes editing your movies easy. You simply connect your professional digital video camera to your computer and you can edit to your heart’s content. Give your film that quality look you only see in theaters.

Did You Really Shoot That?

When you show people what you’ve filmed on your professional digital video camera, don’t be surprised if they ask you if you really shot it. That’s how good your movie will look because you shot it with your very own professional digital video camera.

You can find a professional digital video camera at your local electronics store or search online. Compare product descriptions (which will always be good) with actual customer reviews as the latter can give you a more accurate feedback. The professional video camera is a must for anyone who hopes to be a film maker, anyone who has ever yearned for quality video, or anyone who knows that using what the professionals use is the only way to go.

The Top 7 Reasons for Producing a Marketing Video

There are so many reasons your brand, product or company should consider using video technology as a marketing tool. Here is a list of the top seven:

Image Management: The way your business looks on-screen is entirely under your control when you use promotional video production. That control is a rare opportunity. Your brand, product or company’s image across the entire marketplace is never entirely under your control – but when you use promotional video production, the outcome is yours to decide.

Convenience: Video doesn’t interrupt a prospect as might a phone call. Video is viewed on the demand of the prospect or customer, when they want and how they want. Prospects who use video to evaluate purchase options appreciate being in control of how they do it – and will appreciate you as a result.

Faster Buying Decision: Sales video production makes for a faster sales cycle. Major business schools agree that video speeds up buying decisions. Video production delivers what prospects need to know – even if the video results in questions, those questions will be explicit and to the point, speeding up the sales process.

Reduced Sales Overhead: Travel to an out-of-town prospect’s place of business can drive up costs beyond the benefit of doing the business, even if you land it! Video production allows you to keep sales costs in line without missing opportunities.

Novelty: Market studies on sales video production show that nearly everyone given a DVD will view it at one point or another – even if only out of curiosity. Make that curiosity work for you! Same goes for online video. If you have a video on your website, it increases ‘stickability’ to your site by more than 40%!

Standardization: Doing web video production the right way ensures that consistent, correct information is presented to prospects at all times. Managing a library of web video production titles allows you to address many different groups of prospects, but always with consistency.

Retention: Modern society is used to receiving visual information. Text can be skimmed. A phone call can be a distraction. But video shows. Video captures attention and holds it better than any other medium – especially as most people receive information via television or the internet.

Now you know why a marketing video works. And today, the best way to promote your product or service today is to have a marketing video right on the home page of your website. Feel free to visit Video One’s website at http://www.video1pro.com or call to discuss your ideas, and learn how we can produce a great, affordable web video for you.

Successful Online Advertising Using Video

When you go to internet websites that activate pop-up screens in your browser, what you usually see are text and picture combinations that you usually ignore and close immediately because they are bothersome and not really interesting. You do pause and look at the pop-up screen if it contains some animated pictures or flashing images. When you pass by a store that sells television sets while walking, you look at the screens that have something playing or displayed in them. Between these comparisons, you will find the difference between still and animated images in terms of grabbing a person’s attention.

A still picture will remain a still picture no matter how long and which way you stare at it. An animated picture or video, on the other hand, will grab your attention by arousing your curiosity. Usually, it’s because you want to find out what happens next. It’s all about arousing curiosity.

The internet as it is today allows for streaming video technology that will let you view a whole movie online if you want to. In being able to use this technology to grab a person’s attention, advertisers are getting more and more creative with their strategies. I will look at a moving image because I want to know what it is and what will happen to it. Advertisers know that I will do this and so will the majority of other people browsing the internet.

Even so, unless the individual viewing the animation or video is interested in the advertised product at that time, advertisers will fail to convince a person to spend money. Of course, this is beside the point. The immediate goal of an advertiser is to grab attention. Sometime in the future, the individual will remember seeing the advertisement and will most likely make a purchase because of that simple memory. The memory of it is carried subconsciously and will resurface at a time when you need the product or see the product as you pass by it in the shelves of your favorite grocery store.

To compare to other forms of videos that grab attention, early infants and older children are fascinated by learning modules in video form. A story book with still pictures is just not enough to grab a child’s hyperactive mind. Again, video grabs attention by acting on the curiosity of the viewer.

Curiosity is perhaps the most powerful motivator in a person. For example, the “Stargate SG1” television series shown by the Sci-Fi channel in the US is not available for viewing in some countries. Video grabs a person’s curiosity faster than you can blink (that’s because you won’t be blinking).

Animated pictures and videos are very powerful advertising tools. If an advertising video upon its creation is imbued with humor, a bit of suspense and, finally, relevance to the general public, its effects will be visibly seen in the black ink accountants’ use in their books to indicate income.

Please remember that when you want to sell an idea or product, the best way to grab a person’s attention is by arousing his curiosity through the use of videos. Video is the fastest and most efficient tool when it comes to getting your message across. Human beings are very curious animals and they love good stories.

Video Analytics Solutions for Government

Copyright (c) 2009 Wes Fernley

Security is an issue for all levels of government. From the smallest town to national governments and even international institutions, terrorism, crime and other issues must all be addressed. Video analytics is a powerful tool which can help all levels of government in doing their job of protecting citizens.

Anti-Terrorism Solutions

Terrorism remains a major issue for all governments, big and small. Video surveillance is one of the most important aspects in defending the homeland from terrorist attack. Video analytics can greatly improve video surveillance security in many high risk areas, including: airports, seaports, train stations and other transportation centers; water, power and other utility installations, including nuclear installations; hospitals, schools, museums, libraries and other public institutions; cellular satellite, microwave and energy grids.

Video analytics technology is able to differentiate normal and suspicious behavior, automatically notifying necessary personnel. For airports and other transportation centers, for example, things such as unwatched luggage can be identified by the intelligent surveillance system. Unauthorized access to restricted areas can also be immediately picked up.

Quick identification of potential threats is one of the primary concerns of anti-terrorism efforts. Through the use of intelligent surveillance technology, this quick identification is provided. Anti-terrorism efforts can then be made immediately in order to eliminate the threat before it becomes something more.

Solutions for First Responders

First responders of all kinds can benefit from video analytics technology: police forces, fire departments and ambulance services. Through intelligent video technology, once threats or problems are perceived, video feeds can automatically be sent to first responders wherever they may be. This is possible because video analytics systems allow for simple remote access.

With automatic live video feeds provided to first responders, it allows for the quick analysis as to the nature of the situation. This helps in identifying false alarms, a great concern to first responders. By properly analyzing threats before arriving on the scene, it allows first responders to prepare exactly for the situation they will be facing and greatly increase the effectiveness and efficiency of their efforts.

Increasing Public Safety

Not only can video analytics assist with helping first responders in dealing with situations, it can also be used for increasing public safety. When threats are identified promptly, the public can then be properly informed as to the nature of the situation so as to remove themselves from potentially threatened areas. Such notification and information provided to the public at large is also beneficial in helping them stay out of the way and even providing information to first responders when they arrive on the scene.

Improving Public Services

Video analytics can also provide solutions for improving public services. One of the biggest areas where this intelligent software can be of help is with traffic and roads. Video analytics can do long term studies of traffic patterns by monitoring video so as to properly identify peak hours, dwell times, vehicle counts and more. This information can then be passed onto public officials for use in planning new roads, construction activities and more.

With this information at their disposal, governments will be able to make decisions so as to more effectively control traffic congestion and other problems. City officials can be properly located at the required places at the proper times so as to best be able to deal with high traffic situations. Traffic pattern information can even be passed onto first responders and new routes can be found in order to increase ease of transportation as they travel to the scenes of emergency situations.

Add Video To Sell Your Car

Online video has exploded on the web scene stimulating more and more users to view them everyday. Selling your car is going where the audience is, yet the number of online car selling resources optimizing the video opportunities is practically non-existent. Despite the rapidly growing technology and the abundance of the car buying audience, online car selling companies and sellers have been hesitant to enter this important car selling feature.

There has also been a major increase in what is called New Traffic of online video viewers in other areas of Internet marketing. To those of us who have been around the Web long enough, referring to New Traffic does seem quite peculiar. Online video has actually been around for over a decade, albeit in poor quality for most of its relatively short history.

However, video technology has now become a viable marketing medium due to several factors such as higher Internet speed access, advanced technology, a larger base of the general user community and online video games. The advancement in video technology, coupled with growing consumer interest, has produced a video revolution in the mainstream of Internet searching. The big 5 search engine companys, Google, Yahoo, AOL, MSN and Ask has created a new opportunity for video marketing potential.

Interestingly enough, the video experience has not yet caught on with the car selling public. It is as if car selling companies and the selling public are still back in the late 1990s trying to accomplish the same things. In todays world that is not enough. There is a potential goldmine for those who recognize the video opportunities and immediately start to take advantage of it.

The first step in overcoming this apprehension is a dose of real time education. Now that you know that you must be where the online audience is, and not just with the big boys of this industry, you have to adjust your marketing approach to contact that audience and make them aware of you car through video presentation. Here is why.

According to comScore Video Metrixs most recent report (November 2007), over 9.2 billion video streams were initiated in the month of September 2007. Roughly 75% of all Americans using the Internet watched video at least once that month. The average video viewer watched a staggering 68 videos per month. These videos averaged 2.7 minutes in duration. This relates to a very high number of unique visitors with a high level of media interest.

These statistics tell us that the American buying public is hungry for more video viewing options. That is educational point #1. Point #2 is, the increase in online video viewing is growing rapidly especially in the demographic age group of 24 to 64 year olds both male and female. That is coincidentally the best demographic of car buyers as well.

Point #3: Higher response rates. More important is what users do in response to viewing a video. Statistics from the Kelsey Group White Paper say that half of the online video users engaged in some sort of response activity. Michael Boland, Senior Research Analyst for the Kelsey Group says -this is due to the natural ability of video to elicit an emotional response.- That is exactly what you want your potential buyer to have, an emotional response to buy your car and not anyone else.

Point #4: Technology. It is estimated that those with broadband (higher speed) connections able to handle video streaming are skewed towards higher incomes and are more likely to reach out to higher end consumer goods.

Point #5: Pro-Active versus re-active. Imagine yourself sitting on your favorite couch watching TV. A commercial comes on and it is something you are interested in. You are very unlikely to immediately respond in any meaningful way beyond making a mental note. On the other hand, users viewing a video online are pro-active and more likely to continue the process of learning more about the product they are looking at on video if it is appealing to them. That is the result you want your potential buyer to have. That is called user interactivity.

Conclusion: Optimize your car selling opportunities by integrating a video in your selling ad.
